Remember what the Dormouse said, Feed Your Head

Throughout Batman's publication history, there have been several Alice in Wonderland themed characters. The Mad Hatter appeared on this blog before. There are several others, and in 2008 Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen brought them all together for a crossover event, creating a few characters in the process. Below is a membership breakdown:

The Mad Hatter was created in 1948 by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. His full write up is here

The Tweedles
: TweedleDee and TweedleDum, created in 1943 by Don Cameron and Jerry Robinson, are a pair of nearly identical mob bosses. Together they mastermind the crimes they commit, and direct others to implement them. During War Games, the original TweedleDum is killed, and his twin takes his place... which is a writer's ploy to undo another writer's dumb decision and make continuity work. Obviously. The Tweedles have this weird obsession with Lewis Carroll's Alice books, independently from the Mad Hatter, and a few other characters who are not in this Wonderland Gang and will appear in separate posts, probably.

March Harriet: Harriet Pratt was created in 2008 as part of the Wonderland Gang. Cat burglar and escort, Pratt is in the wrong place at the wrong time and runs into the Mad Hatter. During a burglary gone wrong, Pratt is rescued by Tetch and becomes part of his new gang. As March Harriet, she seems to have similar traits to both Catwoman, and Harley Quinn, albeit with bunny ears.

The Walrus: Also created in 2008, the Walrus is retconned as a bodyguard/enforcer for the Black Mask. He has a very James Bond villain look about him, wearing a metal faceplate mask with two protruding tusks. Obviously the muscle of the outfit, the Walrus is partnered up with the Carpenter, for Lewis-Carrolly reasons.

The Carpenter
: Paired with the Walrus, this pickpocket and safe cracker seems to me to be the most interesting. Not really sure why she needs to be paired with an enforcer like the Walrus. Her Carpenter persona can be extended outside of Wonderland themes, and her skillset could allow partnerships with many other villains. In fact, she does have cameo appearances with Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn in a Gotham Sirens story arc.

The Lion and the Unicorn: Just like the Walrus, these two dudes are hired especially as physical muscle, bodyguards for the Tweeds. One wears a lion's mane, and the other, like the Walrus, wears a metal headpiece with a single horn fixed to the top.  These two are so unimportant, I couldn't find any good interesting pictures to include from the internet.

This Wonderland Gang has had one more appearance since it's creation. The second appearance featured the Tweeds, March Harriet and the Carpenter. In the future, I'd like to see more March Harriet and the Carpenter, not necessarily together, but certainly independent from the Tweeds. They do seem to be far more interesting. Perhaps we can see them team up with Red Alice, and/or the White Rabbit, forming an all female Wonderland themed gang.
